Teen Summer Reading Camp!

Do you have what it takes to make it as a character in the world of your favorite books? Find out at Book Camp! Play Quidditch, become a Ranger’s Apprentice, climb the rock wall at Camp Half-Blood, and solve ancient mysteries on Red Pyramid day. All activities are free and open to anyone going into 6th grade-leaving grade 12.

June 4: Author visit by John Rocco, author and illustrator, 10-12. John does the cover illustrations for Rick Riordan’s children’s series like Percy Jackson, The Heroes of Olympus, and Red Pyramid. He also writes and illustrates his own children’s books. Meet him, hear him talk about his art, and get your books signed! Books for sale at the event. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library, who put on summer reading for us each year! 

June 16: Author visit by Beth Revis, author of Across the Universe, 3-5 PM. Is it sci-fi? Is it romance? It’s a great book you won’t be able to put down! Talk to Beth and ask her your questions, but don’t ask her what’s going to happen in book 2 – her lips are sealed.

June 18: Demigod Camp 1-4 PM. Join Camp Half-Blood or the mystery camp from Lost Hero, and compete in mythological contests! Climb the rock wall, play capture the flag, and play a monster-fighting card game.

July 7: Ranger’s Apprentice Camp 9:30-4:30 at Cypress Bend Park. Bring lunch and water. Learn outdoor survival skills with Mark Suter from Primitive Living Skills of Texas. Build shelters, find food and water, and more.

July 14: Airship Ball 4-6 PM. Solve a role-playing mystery with pirates!

August 4: Red Pyramid Camp 2-4 PM. Two teams race to excavate mini-pyramids with treasures inside.

All summer long: Space 1899, every Wednesday from 11:30-1 starting June 22. Action! Adventure! Dice! If you’ve never roleplayed before , or if you have, join us for this fun ongoing game where you take on a character and have adventures on Mars. Come for all or some of the days. No experience or stuff necessary!

AM Quidditch, Friday mornings starting June 24. Before it gets too hot, come play the sport of wizards in the field behind the library from around 9 to around 10 AM. Wear real shoes, not flip-flops!
